What do our sessions look like?
As you start to understand a little more about what a doula’s work looks like, you might be wondering what that actually means in real life, what our time together feels like, and how this support takes shape through pregnancy, birth, and the early days after.
Every family’s journey is unique, and so is the way we work together. Some sessions might feel practical and hands-on, others deeply reflective or emotional. Sometimes we’ll be learning tools and techniques, and other times simply sitting together, holding space for whatever is present.
The more time we spend together, the more trust and continuity we build. That sense of familiarity, of being known, understood, and gently held, becomes a foundation for your birth experience. It’s this ongoing relationship that may support you to settle more deeply into your body’s wisdom and to birth and mother with confidence.
Here’s a glimpse into what our sessions might look like together.

During pregnancy
Together, we might:
-
Talk through your hopes, questions, and feelings about birth, exploring your previous birth experiences
-
Learn simple, evidence-based comfort measures and relaxation tools
-
Speak about fears in a safe and held space
-
Hold an intimate 1 on 1 mother blessing
-
Explore movement and positions
-
Spend time with your older children, perhaps speaking of birth and making sure they feel familiar and comfortable in my presence
-
Create a birth map and plan by exploring your birth preferences, supporting you to feel clear, confident, and informed
-
Spend time cooking together, filling your freezer with food that is nourishing specifically for postpartum
-
Care for you with massage and loving touch
-
Create personal rituals or affirmations to anchor calm and self-trust
-
Support you during a meeting with an obstetrician, midwife or during a scan
-
Simply share space — with time for tea, reflection, and connection

During postpartum
Postpartum sessions might include:
-
Gentle debriefing of your birth experience ( this is what our first postpartum session will consist of)
-
Each session includes a nourishing meal, a one handed snack and a tea
-
Emotional support as you adjust to caring for your new baby
-
Light housework, spending time with your other children
-
Gentle support for your body such as massage, castor oil packs or belly wrapping
-
Guidance and reassurance with feeding and newborn care
-
Referring you to other locally available helpers, groups and women
-
Practical help and a comforting presence in your home
-
Time for you to rest, recover, and be cared for while knowing your baby is also being loved
-
Simple rituals to honour your transition into motherhood
-
Support during the more difficult hours of the day
